Exquisite Captain Jack Sparrow
"Pirate"
December 2005 ~ August 2008
For those who don't know, we lost our beloved Pirate on the night of August 25, 2008. We are still reeling, heartsick and just lost without him. Pirate was bitten three times on his left paw by a copperhead snake. We rushed him to the vets office immediately but at just 3.5 lbs he didn't stand a chance. THANK YOU to all of my friends and clients for the prayers and kind thoughts.
Pirate was everything a Maltese could be and more. Perfect temperament. Perfect confirmation. He was so loved here at Exquisite Angels. As a part of our family he chose me, always, first. He was the one of the gentlest and kindest souls I've ever met. I will never forget his way of letting me know he was here. He would gently, with just a whisper of a kiss, tell me "Hey Mom? I'm down here by your feet and I love you". As a puppy he would ride around on my shoulder very muchly like a parrot. As he matured he never lost his desire to be on my shoulder. I could go about my daily activities with him clinging to my shoulder for hours on end. As I worked outside Pirate would be right at my feet, always. He was never demanding about attention. As one of many his gentle patience often won him a place in our beds, our laps, and he could get a treat quicker than any other by constantly showing that, yes, he'd LIKE a treat, but be darned if he was going to act a fool for one. He was wise beyond his years even as a baby. The look in his eyes was purely angelic. Full of love and trust and admiration. As a stud dog, again, he was never demanding. He did his "job" with dignity and quiet reserve. He produced some of the most beautiful Maltese, Maltipoos, and Morkies on the face of this planet during his short career. We now have two of his litters here on the ground with two more on the way. His puppies have his classic head and expression and many of them manifest the same gentle soul that he himself had.
Pirate died as he lived. Protecting his family with gentleness and love. He kept the girls away from that snake, taking all three bites himself, and not one of the other dogs had so much as a scratch. As I carried him to the vets office he was in a great deal of pain, he was so sick, and he looked to me to care for him. As bad as he was hurting he allowed me to examine him, and the vet to examine him without snapping or without a trace of fear. I was forced to leave him at the vets office, on fluids and with the vet coming to check on him that night. I will never get over the fact that he died alone. This beautiful wonderful boy who gave everything and asked for nothing left this world without the one he loved the most...me. Being who and what he was, I know that he would forgive me. Will forgive me. I pray that I am worthy to be with him again someday.
Pirate was buried on the top of this hill at one of the highest points in our area of TN. Under the biggest azalea bush I've ever seen. I've fought with myself for years over this bush. It's beautiful but it only blooms for two short weeks every year. I am so glad now that it's still here as it gave Pirate the perfect resting place. For those two short weeks, as his life was so short, that bush is the most beautiful point in this county. Every eye that passes is drawn to the beautiful pink blossoms by the little white house on the hill. He was laid to rest with his things and wrapped in the Pirates of the Carribbean blanket that he loved to cuddle with me on the couch with.
Pirate, your family loves you. We miss you. Our hearts ache to the point of breaking. My days will never be the same. The world is less beautiful without you here. May you rest in peace and may we meet again someday.
If you are reading this and you are owned by a little white dog (or ANY dog), hold your baby today and thank God that you still have him/her. Treasure your days together.
