What does Pick of the Litter really mean?
A great deal of time and effort goes into choosing my puppies. Rest assured that my preliminary observations of any litter consist of careful consideration of physical type combined with personality testing developed to help those looking for "their" puppy from a litter of beautiful puppies. When buying over the internet try to find a person who is familiar with the AKC standard of your chosen breed & who has LIVED with the puppy you are considering. This is SO IMPORTANT. I believe in my heart that all puppies are great & deserve the best chance in life and I know that puppies change throughout their lives with positive training and reinforcements. I also believe that a good eye for initial physical attributes and personality testing can tell a LOT to the experienced breeder. I strongly feel that when buying a puppy from me you aren't "blindly" choosing a puppy. Call me, fill out your questionnaire, and lets TALK. Be open to questions and also be open to my advice. Most puppies are generally "ok" for almost any situation. If you observe this website I am always very clear when I feel a certain puppy has definite needs or qualities that I think make it desirable/non desirable for certain situations.

Physical Attributes
Is your puppy a good representative of it's breed according to AKC standards? If your puppy is a designer mix does your breeder know and understand both sets of AKC standards involved & how to apply them to what is basically an unknown perfect "type"?
I am not only familiar with the AKC standard but I have a depth of perception on structure provided from many years of vet tech work with a bone specialist. Seeing how things work from the inside out & what to look for in movement and gait are very important as bad movement indicates a fault in structure. When I observe a litter of puppies looking for standouts I apply the puppies physical appearance with the AKC standard requirments. I check bite, eyes, coat quality, gum color, for hernias or skin conditions, & then consider overall appearance & choose the puppy who BEST FITS THE BREEDS STANDARD. Some factors are negotiable. Maltese with lemon on ears (allowed by the AKC standard, Yorkies with ears that are still down ( common in young puppies), Maltipoos with a cut or uncut tail (as this isn't a set requirement & is left to the discrimination of the individual breeder).
